Last week, E and N made a model of the Nile River, as described in Story of the World, Activity Book 1, Ancient Times. We took a walk at our local nature center and collected some rocks to put in the river bed. Then we came home and made the model by first putting potting soil in a large foil roasting pan. The boys created the shape of the Nile River delta and then lined the river bed with foil and the rocks. They sprinkled grass seed along the riverbanks and then created a flood by pouring water into the river.
One week later the grass had sprouted:
Today the grass is about 3 inches tall.
